Zach Biggar

Zach Biggar

This is my friend/neighbour Zach Biggar. I see him everyday, I cook for him, help him clean, and help him with his laundry. We go for wings every wednesday, watch movies, sometimes go out to eat —  all of this in groups with other people. He is from Hay River, North West Territories —  he won’t let people forget that, as well as the fact that it is “always colder” there so we can’t complain about our mild Calgary winter….

Jessica Ellis- Cowgirl

Jessica Ellis- Cowgirl

Any of you who know me know how much I love the country. Country music, country living, country landscape, country attire, country activities, country meals, my country family… basically country everything! So when I went home a few weekends back I decided to pull in another favour from my beautiful cousin Jessica and photograph her and her horse. Country and family. Couldn’t get any better. We spent about an hour taking portraits of her and her nine-year-old Quarter Horse gelding…

Dogs and their humans

Dogs and their humans

This past weekend I went home one day to photograph my sister, cousin, and grandma with their dogs. I set up my photo studio in the basement consisting of a white backdrop and and my two flash units. Photographing them with their dogs was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. Apparently none of them were as well behaved as we thought… The dogs didn’t like the flash, did not enjoy sitting and holding a pose for…

These are a few subject for a portrait project of mine for my lighting class. Justice Brooks, Crystal Walter, and Mickey Desjardians are all students in SAIT’s Film and Production program, following their dreams to make it big in the film industry. You can check out Justice Brook’s website and some of his videos at: justicebrooks.com  For these shoots I used my Canon 7D camera with my 16-35mm lens. A 4X6′ soft box, a strip-light, and a Canon 430EX flash…

Madde Appleton- Artist

Madde Appleton- Artist

This is one of my very good friends Madde Appleton. She is so beautiful and is seriously the sweetest person you’ll ever meet and she will do anything for her friends. I needed a last minute subject for an assignment in my lighting class using colour gels and she selflessly took a break from doing her homework to help me out! She is a second-year student at ACAD who enjoys making all sorts of cool projects but especially weaving things…

Kalen Konietzny

Kalen Konietzny

For one of my studio lighting assignments I used my beautiful, funny, and totally chill friend Kalen. I’ve promised my friends that I’ll do studio pictures of them if they sit through me trying to learn how to work all the fancy lights and I finally was able to do so. We had a great time in the studio playing around for about an hour. Although Kalen swears she is not photogenic I beg to differ. She has such a…

Evan Parrott- Author

Evan Parrott- Author

I photographed author, Evan Parrott, on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 inside of Moores, a mens clothing store located in North Hill mall in Calgary. Parrott is also the assistant manager of the store. The shoot lasted about 30 minutes and we moved around the store several times to capture different surroundings. Each time I moved my light and sometimes changed the output and flash exposure compensation. The shoot went relatively well seeing as we had to get out of the…

Nicole Ellis- Figure Skater

Nicole Ellis- Figure Skater

One of my assignments for a lighting class I have was to create pictures with dramatic lighting. My main goal for this set of pictures was to have my subject, my 16-year-old sister Nicole, to be half in light and half in shadow with a little bit of rim light on her shadow side so she didn’t completely fade to black. In the basement in my parents house I took my sheets (which I had brought home to be washed)…

Sunshine and Music

Sunshine and Music

Last year in the general photography class we took there was an assignment to do weather feature and feature assignments. I found a couple buskers and took a couple quick shots. The girl was very hesitant for me to take her picture as she later disclosed to me that she was having a good acid trip. After she shed that weight off her chest she took great joy in telling me her life story. In that moment, although it was…

Jeffery Theissen- Dirt bike rider

Jeffery Theissen- Dirt bike rider

I shot this environmental portrait series of a friend of mine, Jeffery Theissen, who enjoys to spend most of his free time dirt biking with friends along some land his family owns near Carseland along the river. Jeff, two friends of ours, their dog, and I spend a few hours along the river and on Jeff’s grandpa’s gravel pit not far from the river. Jeff ripped around on his dirt bike, I took pictures, and our friends held my flash,…
